Introduction

With the grace of Śiva, I’m happy to offer for the fourth time, a study program on learning to chant the most famous mantra & prayer to Lord Śiva or Rudra. Considered the most important sādhana a yogī can undertake, it provides the means for gaining eligibility for the knowledge unfolded by the mantra, revealing the truth of oneself. This hymn is considered to be very efficacious in neutralising the result of wrong actions. We will be learning both Rudrapraśnaḥ & Camakapraśnaḥ in this program

This hymn is a source of inspiration for the famous genre of nāmāvalis (name mantras). Even in the Vedas, one does not see a section like Śrī Rudram consisting of many names of the divine along with the word, namaḥ, salutation. The famous five-syllabled mantra namaśśivāya, is from this great hymn.

Category:

The course is based on my study with my Guru Śrī M.S. Sreenivasan of The Challakere Brothers. The detailed phonetic guidance provided in this course is the result of long term study and honours the Veda recitation rules while also making it understandable and accessible to international students.

Course objectives:

At the end of this course, the student will:

  1. Learn the complete chanting of the Srī Rudrapraśnaḥ (Namakam) & Camakapraśnaḥ along with all Vedic phonetic details.
  2. Learn the significance of this mantra in your life and an overall meaning of each section.
  3. Optional possibility of practising LIVE with the teacher on Zoom on the scheduled classes.
  4. Ensure correct learning through sharing a recording with the teacher following the homework submission process.
  5. Be able to practice this chant independently.
  6. Join our Rudram community - we meet every month on the monthly śivarātri to practice the Srī Rudram.

  • Those who are are able to make space for self-practice and be disciplined in this effort.

This course is NOT for:

  • Students who wish to "try" this course. This is a serious commitment, try our other courses first.
  • Those who are unable to self-practice.

Included in this course:

  • 24 Live classes taught with recordings that will be made available in your course area shortly after each class.

Book recommendation:

I highly recommend getting Śrī Rudram, by Swami Dayananda Saraswati, the best translation & commentary of this mantra along with word by word meaning. Frequently asked questions

1. I have completed the Chanting Teacher training OR I am enrolled in the 2024 Chanting teacher training – should I be taking this course as well?

If you have already completed the teacher training program in May 2023, you are most welcome to join this program. Those enrolled in the 2024 program must contact Shantala before signing up to this in addition, to ensure you are able to do both courses.

2. I have bought the self-paced Rudram bundle – is this content the same or different?

The self-paced course does not include the 24 LIVE classes offered with this program. This program also gives each student individual feedback on up to eight homework assignments – recordings to be sent in and ensure progress in learning the chant. You can write to [email protected] for an “upgrade” to this program, so there are no double payments.

3. I have absolutely no chanting background, will I still be able to follow this course?

It is not possible to do this course without first studying the Foundation course and at least 2 hymns (Sūktam-s).

4. Are there any scholarships or discounts offered on this course?

For this course, we are unable to offer scholarships/discounts but we are offering instalment plans.

5. Can I follow this course through recordings as I’m unable to be there during this time (or time-zone inconvenient)?

Yes, absolutely, you can follow the course through recordings. It is advisable to keep up with the recordings and not allow them to pile up! You can always revisit the recordings for a more thorough watch. Shantala will be reviewing your homework, so you will always feel part of the group!

6. Do I need to have a Sanskrit background or be able to read in Devanāgari?

You only need to know the Sanskrit taught in our Foundation course! The text is provided in English transliteration as well as Devanāgari.
