Introduction

I’m happy to offer two important Jyotiṣa sūktam-s from the Veda, Nakṣatra Sūktam & Navagraha Sūktam.

Nakṣatra Sūktam

The Nakṣatra Sūktam is a hymn dedicated to the celestial nakṣatra-s in the Taittirīya Brāhmaṇa. Each of the 28 nakṣatra-s is associated with a specific deity, symbol and significance. The Sūktam praises and invokes the blessings of these nakṣatra-s and their associated deities for various purposes, including prosperity, protection and spiritual growth. The Nakṣatra-s continue to be a part of the living tradition in India and in Jyotiṣa.

Navagraha Sūktam

A compilation of mantra-s from the Taittirīya Samhitā, Brāhmaṇa & Āraṇyaka, this Sūktam presents 3 mantra-s for each of the nine graha-s (planets) honouring the devatā, adhi devatā & pratyadhi devatā respectively. Though interconnected, each plays a distinct role: the devatā of the graha embodies its essence and influence; the adhi devatā governs the graha; and the pratyadhi devatā is invoked to mitigate adverse planetary effects, ensuring harmony.

Frequently asked questions

I have just finished the Foundation program, can I take this course?

This course is an advanced level course – if you found the Foundation program to be quite easy, have no trouble learning longer texts in Sanskrit and can maintain “svara”, then you can certainly do this course. You should be ready to learn long passages in Sanskrit each week.

Is there any homework between classes?

All students will be required to go through self-paced course material for practice between classes. This is the best way to use this program. Without the practice, it is not possible to learn these hymns just from the live classes alone. This will be the student’s responsibility to follow through. You will have the option to submit weekly homework (recording of your practice). This must be done weekly and cannot be accumulated.

How long will the ZOOM class recordings be available?

The ZOOM class recordings will be available for up to 3 months after course ends. For privacy reasons, we cannot make these videos available permanently as students participate in these classes. However, the three self-paced courses will be available permanently which has all the recordings and learning resources you will need to continue practice after course ends.

Are there any scholarships or discounts offered on this course?

This course takes Shantala’s time extensively, especially as each student receives individual feedback. Payment plans are possible to make it convenient. We are unable to offer discounts or scholarships for this teacher intensive program.

Can I follow this course through recordings as I’m unable to be there during this time (or time-zone inconvenient)?

Yes, absolutely, you can follow the course through recordings. Just make sure to send in your weekly homework on time and receive feedback. This is a very effective way to learn!

Will this course be offered again at another time?

It is unlikely that Shantala can offer this program LIVE again. The self-paced course will be made available however.

Who will evaluate my recordings?

Shantala will evaluate all homework for students on this program.

Refunds on this program

Please note that all sign-ups are final for this program as students will receive instant access to all the course material. There will be no refunds.
